Finding items cannibalization and synergy by BWS data

چکیده
Best-Worst Scaling (BWS) modeling is widely used for finding probabilities of choice among multiple items. The paper considers how to apply BWS data to another problem – of finding the items' cannibalization and synergy. For a product of primary interest, we estimate its probability to be chosen as the best one out of all the data, and also conditionally to each product's presence or absence. For a given product, each other one behaves as a catalyzer or inhibitor of the choice. Constructing the entire matrix of such relations for all the products, we compare its symmetrical elements for each pair of products. It shows which pairs of products are mutually synergic, or complementary, so their chances to be chosen as the best ones are higher in the presence of each other. In other cases, the products can be of negative impact on one another, so one is a cannibalizer of another; or both products suppress each other. Estimations on real marketing data are considered, including the Shapley value for key driver analysis. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Collection of Distributionally Idiosyncratic Items: A Multilingual Resource for Linguistic Research
We present two collections of lexical items with idiosyncratic distribution. The collections document the behavior of German and English bound words (BW, such as English headway), i.e. words which can only occur in one expression (make headway). BWs are a problem for both general and idiomatic dictionaries since it is unclear whether they have an independent lexical status and to what extent th...
متن کاملCannibalization or synergy? Consumers' channel selection in online–offline multichannel systems
This paper develops and empirically validates customer shopping motives taking account of customer channel selection in multichannel systems. As each channel is associated with certain advantages and disadvantages from a customer’s perspective, we develop – based on behavioral considerations – a customer typology to classify different segments of customers. This enables us to empirically analyz...
متن کاملExperimental measurement of preferences in health care using best-worst scaling (BWS): theoretical and statistical issues.
For optimal solutions in health care, decision makers inevitably must evaluate trade-offs, which call for multi-attribute valuation methods. Researchers have proposed using best-worst scaling (BWS) methods which seek to extract information from respondents by asking them to identify the best and worst items in each choice set. While a companion paper describes the different types of BWS, applic...
متن کاملMISQ Archivist Consumer Preferences, Cannibalization, and Competition: Evidence from the Personal Computer Industry
Understanding the degree of cannibalization and competition in online and offline markets is important to firms’ product line designs. However, few empirical studies have measured both effects simultaneously or have examined the factors that determine the extent of cannibalization and competition. In this study, we develop an empirical model to identify cannibalization and competition effects s...
متن کاملInvestigation of Muscle Synergies Using Four Different Methods of Synergy Extraction While Running on a Treadmill in Beginner Runners
Introduction: The study of muscle synergy is a new way to evaluate the functioning of the human body's control system. Different mathematical methods are used to extract muscle synergies from electromyographic data, and this factor can cause different outputs in muscle synergies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate muscle synergies using four different synergy extraction methods...
